| History |
Reduced and
inexpensive version of the 8086, especially for the 8-bit market.
Internal processing 16 bit, external processing 8 bit. Designed for
implementation into 8 bit components by means of minimum modification
IBM chose this chip for its first microprocessor. So the 8088
became one of the most famous and influential CPU in microprocessor
history.
|
| Technology |
Implemented
in N-channel, depletion load, silicon gate technology (HMOS). It is
directly compatible with iAPX 86/10 software and 8080/8085 hardware
and periphals.
