The 80601 has been introduced in 1989, just some months before the fall of the Wall. First detailed publication was in "Mikroprozessortechnik, Heft 5, 1989". The 80601 was produced by the German Democratic Republic and has been intended to be built into the computer system EC 1835. Nevertheless  the serial production of EC 1835 never started. Only a few samples of the 80601 have been produced.
