| Introduction | 1981 |
| History |
The 7000 series was fairly short lived. One of the interesting applications was the TI CC-40 compact computer. It was the only processor, at the time, guaranteed to operate at supplies as low as 3V ! Not unusual today, but unheard of back then. |
| Technology |
8-bit monolithic microcomputer with 2 or 4 Kbyte a user-definable instruction set. This processor succeeded the TMS1000. The TMS7000 series was available in several variants. The primary difference being the amount of onboard ROM. The first two chips, the 7020 and 7040, have 2 or 4 Kbyte of use ROM respectively, and 128 bytes of RAM in a 40-pin package. Up to 60 Kbyte of external memory can be added. The idea was that the user would develop the program firmware which was then shipped to TI to be masked into the production pieces, just like now for many microcontrollers. |
