8-bit
microcomputer on a single MOS integrated circuit; N-Channel
silicon-gate technology; for basic informations see 3870;
the MK3873 single chip microcomputer introduces a major addition to
the MK3870 microcomputer familiy, a serial I/O port. This port is
capable of either synchronous or asynchronous serial data transfers.
The heart of the serial port is a 16-bit shift register that can be
read from or written to by the CPU while data is beeing shifted in or
out of the shift register.
The 3873 retains commonality with the 3870 family of single chip
microcomputers. It has the central processor, oscillator, and clock
circuits, 2048 bytes of mask read-only memory for program storage and
64 bytes of scratchpad RAM. Also the programmable binary timer is
included which provides for system flexibility by operating in 3
different modes. The 3873 has 29 parallel I/O lines. In addition it
has 3 pins to the serial I/O port. The serial clock pin can be drivern
externally or programmed to provide 50 % duty cycle TTL compatible
serial clock. No additional CPU instructions are necessary for use
with the serial port.
